Chelmsford seems to be on a knife edge according the MRP polls.

Lib Dems working this seat hard as you’d expect.
In the seat we’ve had 4 leaflets and 2 or 3 letters from them so far. Two from the Conservatives and the first Labour one only yesterday.
Lib Dems are well embedded as the go to opposition vote in local and county council elections here for some time, too. Chelmsford had the biggest councillor swing in the country in 2019 just before the Tory’s low point in the EU elections, and the Lib Dems retained the council in 2023.
Reform will have a respectable vote share, this being Essex, and the candidate being reasonably well organised (in place since Jan/Feb) and a local.
Though it’s probably one of the least favourable seats in Essex for them considering people moving in from London and rapid city centre flat building meaning the boundaries get tighter and tighter each time. This also takes a couple of % from the notional Tory vote last time.

This comes in the 'about bloody time' bracket for people active in Liberal/Lib Dem circles for a while...

1983 - 378 votes from memory. Can you imagine how out of place hyper "wet" Norman St John Stevas would be in today's Conservative party.
