The core Lib Dem anti-Labour message “will say anything and doesn’t have a plan” is an almost direct lift from Sunak. I’ve been intrigued by this focus on a “plan”. I’m not sure what it actually means in this context. All the parties have manifestos (or a “contract” as Reform has chosen to describe theirs). I wouldn’t say any of them demonstrate a plan in the military or business sense of the word. I assume the use of the word is intended to suggest that those saying it know what they are doing? I don’t want government to “plan” very much at all really, I just want it to get out of my way, leave me alone and stop taking so much of my money. I don’t want a plan, this shouldn’t be Stalin’s USSR.

By plan they are trying to convey that they have actually thought through what they want to do and it is internally consistent, instead of the truth that it is a set of random sound bites, the only thought that has gone into them, being whether it might sound popular.

All the students who remembered the LibDem betrayal on tuition fees have long since graduated and moved out of Cambridge to be replaced by new students who were mere children and have no memory of the LibDem U-Turn.
I'm not up to date on University term times but have most students returned home during their Summer break so the votes will be cast by mostly mere permanent residents instead of being heavily influenced by students?

Easter Full Term ended on Friday 14 June and the undergraduates will have been gone for a fortnight by polling day.

A reminder to posters that a lot of students who live in private rented accommodation will be locked in to 10 month tenancies so could still be here on the 4th. We have found this with the Andrew Feinstein campaign team when meeting UCL, LSE, SOAS, KCL etc students on doorsteps. Here: Labour hold but Greens surge.

But very, very few University of Cambridge undergrads live in private accommodation, and the colleges are typically keen to have students gone as soon as possible. I suppose there could be some ARU students in the situation you describe.

Though a substantial proportion of ARU students are locals who picked ARU because it meant they can stay in the parental home whilst they study (and who then leave the area upon graduation because they can't afford to rent locally.)
It also shouldn't be forgotten that there are a lot of postgrads in the seat, who will be resident year-round.

Chinese students probably make up a big proportion of Russell Group postgraduates. Most of our postgraduates are from India, Pakistan, and Nigeria. Do commonwealth students get on the register these days?

A couple of people handing trying to hand out Workers Party leaflets in the centre this evening (specifically outside the Grand Arcade entrance on St Andrews Street).
