The Conservatives are off to a fast start here, I have received my first election leaflet from Luke Gardiner. Do we still have a thread for posting election literature, or are folks not so interested in that sort of thing??

Do we still have a thread for posting election literature, or are folks not so interested in that sort of thing?? Only if there is something particularly unusual or silly about it. We don’t want the forum cluttered up with leaflets from thousands of candidates in hundreds of constituencies - or even only dozens.

Does “Wkr” mean Workers Party of Britain? If so, it would be useful if people are consistent in using the proper abbreviations (WPB)

In this constituency I have now received 3 leaflets from the Conservative candidate, one from the Labour candidate, and one from the Workers Party candidate. Nothing from anyone else.
The Conservative candidate makes a big deal about the fact that his father used to play for an “East Midlands football club”. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he does not tell the voters of Derby that this club was actually Nottingham Forest.

Passed through Belper and Duffield yesterday. Posterboards Belper - Lab 6 Grn 2 Duffield - Grn 10 Con 1 As far as I am aware there is no Green activity in the Derby (Allestree, Oakwood and Spondon) portion of the constituency but understand a good part of the Erewash wards (Little Eaton and West Hallam but not Borrowash) have had a leaflet as well as the all of the Amber Valley wards. Freepost to the constituency from the Greens has been held up but should have landed/be landing? riccimarsh have you had anything?

I hope you checked out Croots Farm Shop while you were here, it’s marvellous. I’m in the Allestree portion of Derby these days and I’m pretty sure I haven’t received anything from the Greens. I’ve not been in town the last three days tho so… who knows?? If you will commit to high speed rail and nuclear power all across the country, I may consider voting for your party. I did vote for FAS in the EM mayoral election, so I am persuadable!! But public transport is very important for me.

you know the Greens will not commit to nuclear power. I know, but I do not understand why. Same with rail. How can HSR be a net environmental negative?? If the Greens can explain this to me, I may once again consider them worth voting for. But without such an explanation, I cannot take them seriously.

I did vote for FAS in the EM mayoral election, so I am persuadable!! But public transport is very important for me.Personally or the party? Massive investment in public transport, in particular high speed rail, is something I am very keen on seeing. Locally I would love to have the restoration of the Derby to Manchester line with electrification and I hope one day to see direct ticketing and travel to cities across Europe. The idea of getting on a sleeper service in Derby (I would accept Sheffield or Nottingham) and waking up in Berlin or Rome must surely be one that a political movement could and should get behind. New nuclear is something I remain highly dubious of. The repeated promise to every generation from the 1950s onwards, of energy too cheap to even bother with metering that every time ends up the most expensive, on its own leaves me a long way from being convinced without visiting the more standard pro/anti arguments. However, I have colleagues in the local party who will talk anyone through the possibilities offered by small modular reactors that Rolls-Royce are at the forefront of.
