Liam Booth-Isherwood has ended his campaign as Reform Party candidate and endorsed the Conservatives: Will he be the last to leave Farage’s vanity project by Thursday?

At this point the election outcome is virtually decided anyway. Polling day is only 4 days away now.

At this point the election outcome is virtually decided anyway. Polling day is only 4 days away now. It does make you wonder how many votes he will still get (and relative to nearby similar seats) despite this announcement which will be reached only generally by the Twitterati (mostly not resident in Erewash) and perhaps viewers of East Midlands today - I doubt there will be time for a leaflet by him or Maggie Throup going out with this announcement! And how many still read local papers? Still, if Throup clings on by the skin of her teeth she will have to thank him. I think seats like this or Amber Valley may see a lower swing (cf Aldridge 1997) than other ‘never won by Labour before’ seats (eg Rushcliffe) so it isn’t completely out of the question.

I imagine the news will be doing the rounds on Conservative social media pages and local community forums, but I doubt it'll make more than a couple of percentage of difference this close to the election. Many Reform voters prioritize making a statement to electing a new MP, so even those that know may still vote Reform anyway.

In terms of local newspapers, how high is their readership in Long Eaton and Ilkeston, assuming they even still have them given how many local titles have closed down or merged in the last decade?

This Reform candidate is a recent defector the other way - he stood for the Tories in Willington and Findern ward, South Derbyshire DC in May 2023.
He stood for Reform in the Melbourne Ward by-election in May so I'd be fascinated to see his next move if he fancies carrying on. One to be wary of perhaps?

The Long Eaton Advertiser went to the wall years ago and the Ilkeston Advertiser ended up as part of the Derbyshire Times (a weekly which publishes on Thursday). Both the Derby Telegraph and the Nottingham Post will be available in both towns but neither will have a readership of any significance.
