She loved being a constituency MP too. Maybe she wants no part in the post election alt-right MAGA imitation Tory party. I guess that there are only so many moderates able to stand up for mainstream conservatism. If the election result mirrors the current polls the party will be a rump containing two polarised inner rumps, I wouldn't want to hang around that lot either.

She's served 27 years, she has long-standing health issues, she's 67 so serving a further full term would take her well past seventy.

that's true but this was already the case when she was reselected. She has changed her mind. There may be political reasons for that, but possibly she is more worried about her health than she was a few months ago.
