It has now been two months since the Boundary Commissioners finished their work and created 650 new constituencies and since then we have been patiently waiting for Professors Thrasher and Rallings to do their magic. Therefore I was going through the past reviews to see how long it took them to produce their document so we have a rough idea of how much longer we have to wait.
The first published boundary review guide was in 1983 when the BBC and ITN jointly published their estimates in a book entitled "The BBC/ITN Guide to the New Parliamentary Constituencies" however this book is no longer in print and has not been uploaded to the Internet Archive and therefore I have no idea when it was published.
The next major boundary review guide came in 1997, this time done by Professor Thrasher and Rallings and although I recall recieving a seecond hand copy of the information in January 1997, I know that when the BBC were talking about the Staffordshire South East by-election in 1996, the swingometer had been adjusted to reflect a Conservative majority of 27 on the new boundaries and sadly, no internet archive exists
Next came 2005 with the boundary changes in Scotland and here we do have a record. The Scottish Boundary Commission published their report in November 2004 and not long afterwards came the book (as the book says "First published in 2004").
The 2010 review which concluded in a number of stages. Wales January 2005, England October 2006 and Northern Ireland September 2007 with the book published in 2007.
Therefore this lead me to believe that we should have a publication date sometime this year and perhaps anytime between the conference season and Christmas

The 1983 'Media Guide' was published in 1983 - the preface was dated 11 April, i.e. only a month before the General Election. Rallings and Thrasher were not involved in the 1983 edition. It could not have published much earlier as the final report of the Boundary Commission for England was only published in February 1983.

I've been in contact with Michael Thrasher to enquire whether, and if so when, a new edition of the Media Guide may be forthcoming. He responded to say that the matter is still under discussion, but that he hopes that the position will be clearer in about three weeks or so. So watch this space.

Presumably that includes working on a set of notionals?
