It would perhaps be somewhat surprising if Alun Michael stood for re election. He celebrates his 80th birthday next week.

Perhaps now that he's found a job where people seem to like him he might not want to give it up.

Emma Wools selected as Labour candidate. I guess it means that Alun Michael is retiring. Wools is the Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner since 2016.

Quite incredible senario. Well done (once again) to andrea for bringing us the selection news before the MSM.

My polling card has arrived so a few people might notice this election will be happening...maybe Turnout will be low.
PPC elections are ones which basically nobody cares about and even fewer understand.
Though postal ballots will make up a significant proportion of the total votes and the increase in the number of postal voters means the 14.7% turnout in 2012 should be beaten.

Yeah, South Wales is at least looking like a pretty solid Labour hold. Turnout will be low, but we've not seen anyone else even bothering to put up a real fight on the PCC front.

It will be pretty solid IMO. Though getting above 50% will be a tough ask. Turnout will be low. Probably a touch higher than the 14.7% in 2012 as there are lots of other elections elsewhere and lots on the news about the elections. Though we'll see. I've done a bit of campaigning recently, but not in the SWP area.
I only sent my own postal ballot last Friday. Of course I want an emphatic Labour win, but, like most, my enthusiasm to vote is close to zero.
