With concurrent elections in Crawley, Adur, Worthing and Hastings (in none of which did the Tories perform) plus a couple of Brighton by-elections you’d imagine that this will be a lot closer than before.

Katy Bourne re-elected. 39% for Conservatives to 31% for Labour. Yup. I'd thought it would be far closer with the concurrent elections raising turnout in more Labour areas. She'd have lost under the old system.

Paul Richards - who once wrote a book about how to win elections - still hasn't actually won one himself, then.

Paul Richards - who once wrote a book about how to win elections - still hasn't actually won one himself, then. To be fair, it was a brilliant book. As was “How to be your own spin doctor.”

She'd have lost under the old system. Indeed. Labour would have got my second preference if I'd been allowed to make one. My wife is ex-Sussex Police, and she asked me who should she vote for to get rid of Katy Bourne - so that was one Labour vote! wanting to see the back of Katy Bourne is pretty universal amongst current and retired police officers.
