Yes, this idea is a lot worse than the Mickey Mouse 'metro mayors' and their equivalents as at least they simply form a separate and largely useless layer above local government, whereas this... I mean, did we not all learn from the Israeli experience of direct elections for Prime Minister? Still, at least there won't be any problems with wildly inflated office costs, nor allegations that the funds have been mismanaged.

Do we have any idea on who the main Party candidates are as we might have more chance of predicting the poll then?

I feel this should be rendered "lædere o norþfolc" This mostly rural backwater should be run by a Duke, imo.

To be fair I think the name is better than Mayor when it is for largely rural authorities like Norfolk and Suffolk. Mayors should be for towns or cities. I'm against the whole concept anyway (although more acceptable when applied to a proper county as here than the cases like the dreaded West of England), but the most appropriate name in cases like this would be Sheriff Through gritted teeth I find myself agreeing to this.

Norfolk CC have a cabinet meeting next week, followed by a full council meeting the week after (12 December) at which they are going to decide whether or not they want this to go ahead. Their four options are: to go ahead, to postpone with the intention of doing it next year, to negotiate a level 2 devolution deal, or to give up on devolution entirely.
