Although the Tories have held some seats I'd of expected them to lose such as Blandford and Beaminster, overall I still reckon we will end up with the Lib Dems as largest party and a Lib Dem led administration.

The Conservative majority in Blandford seems extraordinarily large. Any idea what is happening there?

Sturminster Newton: Con hold
Con: 712 LD: 267 Lab: 75
So 67.6% of the vote to the Conservatives, compared to 32.5% (with the same candidate) last time in a close race against an independent and the LD candidate. I definitely think that some Conservative councillors in Dorset are somewhat less Conservative (a mix of the capital and lower case 'c' sense) than their party would suggest, and such incumbents sometimes find widespread appeal. I'm not too sure if that's the case here, but it would be my guess.

Chickerell: 2x LD gain from Conservative/Ind, with no independent candidate. One of the successful LD candidates was Gill Taylor, a long-standing councillor for neighbouring areas in Weymouth who was well ahead of the Tories. The second LD was 39 votes ahead of the (incumbent) first Tory.

Seems like the Lib Dems doing poorly in North Dorset but well elsewhere?

Portland: 2x Independents for Dorset, 1 Labour, sort of no change. Last time there were 2 independent candidates who won who stood under the 'Independents for Dorset' banner this time. However one of the incumbents lost out and instead a new Independents for Dorset candidate won. The first place loser was the sole Green candidate. Massive disparity between the Labour candidates, including between the 2nd and 3rd candidates... who are a married couple with one (3rd place Lab) running for parliament for Respect in 2005 and the other (2nd place Lab) running for Labour in 2019.
It's a funny place.

Radipole: 2x LD hold, unsurprisingly. The two Conservatives are just squeezed into last place by the Labour candidate.

Seems like the Lib Dems doing poorly in North Dorset but well elsewhere? In places like northern Dorset we're pretty much at saturation point as we've been a feature for years. Elsewhere, we have had a lot of untapped potential.

Ferndown South: 1 Con hold, 1 Ind gain from Con. The independent is (according to a quick Google) a horticulturist who helped to set up a community larder, so I would guess she won from the left of the Conservatives rather than the right (not a given for Ferndown).

Still waiting for the result from Swanage to see if the "not just saying the quiet bit out loud, but shouting very loudly about it" Conservative leaflet will work.

IIRC the winner (Barrie Cooper) has represented Blandford wards on various levels in the past.

Rodwell and Wyke: 2x Green, 1 Lab, no change. Winning (incumbent) Labour candidate very nearly had double (1385 vs 700) her worst performing running mate, with comparatively even Green vote shares.
