So yes @ianrobo you can replace your tenner, but in the spirit of your offer, I will drop a tenner into the local OAP club next week.

Can't find the previous results but Wharton appears to be a 2 member ward where the other councillor is Labour. Overall Labour has 12 seats on Winsford Town Council, Lib Dems 2 and Conservative 1. The ward result for Cheshire West UA in 2011 was Lab 1119/1110 Con 611/573 Lib Dem 332/242 but I don't know if the boundaries are the same

I totally underestimated UKIP in these two by-elections in what are now Asian dominated wards - 20% in Oldham and Barking whihc probably equates to about a 40% share of the white vote, similar to what we got in Cliftonville. I hope Jerry Hayes is taking note

OLDHAM Alexandra result tweeted by the council:
RESULT: Allsopp N (CON) 80 ; Chauhan Z (LAB) 1,553; Dawson K (L DEM) 96; Fletcher D (UKIP) 412; Meadowcroft M (GRE) 55.
(That looks a stunningly bad result for the Conservatives)

Andrea had that result to us 40 minutes before Oldham council To be fair to Oldham, I took it from the council twitter feed. They were up to date there 2011 Census had 65% White in Alexandra (60% White British). Tories stood Raja Amjad Iqbal in 2010, 11 and 12 He polled 24% in 2010, 23% in 2011 and 35% in 2012. Labour had 2010 Hugh McDonald 34% (enough to win as it was a 5 way fight while 2011-12 just Lab-Con-LD) 2011 Jenny Harrison 59% 2012 Dilys Margaret Fletcher 46% LibDems won in 2008 (Hugh McDonald was the Lab candidate). I don't know results pre 2008. I guess Labour could have won in 2007 and Jenny Harrison be an incumbent in 2011 (explaining why she did considerably better than Dilys Fletcher against the same Tory opponent). I found them (on Andrew Teale's website, obviously), Labour won in 2007 but Jenny Harrison was not the candidate then. So my theory doesn't hold at all. I totally underestimated UKIP in these two by-elections in what are now Asian dominated wards - 20% in Oldham and Barking whihc probably equates to about a 40% share of the white vote, similar to what we got in Cliftonville. I hope Jerry Hayes is taking note I guess UKIP have a good potential (in terms of share of the vote) in White areas with a BAME area right next door or in areas with a considerable white minority or in white areas with a considerable BAME minority.

This is the ward in 2007 which was declared without counting one of the ballot boxes. The 2007 result including the missing ballot box was reported at the time as Lab 1248/1225/1219 Lib 1072/1024/988 LD 503/420/419 C 495/486. I am curious to know how they could be stupid enough not to count one of the boxes anyway, but more specifically how such an error got through the verification stage.

Because everyone including the agents F-ed up. Comparable but different was 2005 in St Albans North, I asked for a recount more out of duty than out of expectaion the Tory majority was I think 68. Odd 1s found wrong then 6 20s in a Tory hundred. And finally 11 hundereds in a LD thousand won us the seat. I should have caught that at the verification. Lesson learnt. I do ask for verification figures as a matter of course now.
