Carolus, this service you provide is very useful but I have just one question. When you say (for example) "Labour hold by 5.3% over Con" do you mean in the most recent elections, in this case 2023? I've never been quite clear. Thanks.

I've never been quite clear. Thanks. Yes - if no year specified then whenever the last regular set of elections was for that council. Year specified when the ward elects irregularly (e.g. once per cycle although the council elects by thirds). I'm happy to adjust the wording - I'd wanted to avoid specifying "in 2023" over and over again, but perhaps that's brevity at the expense of clarity.

Ric Metcalfe, the current Labour leader of the City of Lincoln Council will step down at the elections in May. He's been a councillor since 1982 and leader for nearly 20 years in that time. It seems likely that he has chosen this time as the result in his Glebe ward last year was: Lib Dem: 58% Labour: 26% Conservative: 13% Green: 3% Source: mylocal.co.uk/lincolnshire/feed/156915

It's actually something of a success story. It's one place where even in the dark years, the Lib Dems usually managed a full slate, and since 2021, have started winning seats again, having got wiped off back in 2008. Presumably based on last year's result, should be a comfortable gain in Glebe, bringing the total to 5

From my local knowledge I would say there is a 50/50 chance that the Lib Dems could be 2nd in vote share ahead of the Tories. Wouldn't want to guess seat numbers but the Park Division County Council by election could be interesting.

And the first result in from the East Midlands is for a county council seat in Leicestershire where the Lib Dems have gained Burbage from the Cons on a 14% swing in a by-election.

In the end the Cons were just 15 votes away from a wipe out in this round of elections.
