So Damms and Lodge would be up next year? Yes. I’ll update my previous posts in this thread later today. (Now done: both the one with the figures and the list of split wards, and the ward profiles.)

Could Labour still take overall control? Assuming they regain the three defectors' seats (Sophie Wilson and two Foxites) they'd need to take 8 seats net from other parties. This isn't completely impossible, as a look at iain's target list will show, but it would require an exceptionally good result and I can't see any reason to think that they'll do that much better than they have in recent years. And in at least one target ward, Beighton, I imagine that the immediate cause of this schism makes it particularly challenging.

Further updates: the Foxite group are now the "Sheffield Community Councillors Group", and they have an eighth member, Paul Wood (Woodhouse, elected 2022).
Obviously this latest defection makes it even harder for Labour to retake control.

Ecclesall: 8.6%, 4.6%, 8.6%Traditionally a safe Lib Dem ward, it will have voted Labour at the past two general elections, and has become a Lib Dem-Green fight locally. If I were in charge of the Green campaign this year I would (temporarily) abandon the campaign here to focus on consolidation in a tough year, but I suspect they'll fight on. Even if they do I expect the Lib Dems will hold, but wouldn't be shocked by a loss. Either way, with the Labour vote well squeezed in 2023, Ecclesall will not be relevant to the main event. Today I received a leaflet from the Green Party.

Cllr Vickie Priestley (Liberal Democrat, Stannington ward) has sadly passed away.

Do any of our Sheffield correspondents remember this guy? And what happened? Ooo, I remember that. The house is still there, but all evidence of the excavation has gone. The whole block has a new front wall, looks like part of the Burngreave neighbourhood renewal programme stuff. I seem to remember the council ended up compulsary purchasing the block. Ironically, one of my early councillor cases was similar to this. A chap came home and found his neighbour wanted to widen his drive, so has removed my case's foundations from the side of his house. If you zoom in here you can make out that the property to the left has removed not one but two boundary walls to the right - walls that formed part of the foundations of the property to the right.

David Cronshaw has announced on Sheffield Council's Facebook page that he is standing as an Independent in Birley ward. This was in a comment he made to something Sheffield Council posted today ("We know we need to provide a sustainable budget that delivers for the people of Sheffield."). www.facebook.com/SheffCityCouncil

I have noticed the Lib Dem candidate in Birley promoting himself a couple of times, but I don't know if this is indicative of the Lib Dems seriously targeting the ward (which there would be a logic to) or if it is simply an enthusiastic candidate.

A quote from the Green website: "Five of our hard working Councillors are standing for re-election: Alexi Dimond in Gleadless Valley, Christine Gilligan Kubo in Hillsborough, Douglas Johnson in City, Brian Holmshaw in Broomhill and Sharrow Vale and Maroof Raouf in Nether Edge and Sharrow. To add to our team of 14 Councillors we are campaigning to elect Peter Gilbert in Ecclesall."
So they are fighting on in Ecclesall, but it seems the party may have taken my advice of refining their battleground by giving up on their defence in Walkley, which was an easy Labour hold last year and where the sitting Green councillor, Bernard Little, is (presumably) standing down.
