For many years Rastrick was seen as more Conservative than Brighouse, but that seems not to be the case most years now.

Guy Beech, Con, Illingworth & Mixenden is no longer listed as a councillor. He was due to retire in May. That leaves only one Tory councillor left within the current boundaries of the Halifax constituency, and he's also up in May, in a ward where the Greens got 63% last May.

The local (Elland) Labour candidate no longer has the party's support. All went quiet about a fortnight ago. A cursory glance of his SM profile left you in no doubt about his views.

I assume the Tory hold in Elland is connected to the Labour candidate being disowned?

I assume the Tory hold in Elland is connected to the Labour candidate being disowned? Possible. Tory vote static compared to 2023. Labour down 600. The Labour campaign ceased the moment he was suspended. Did this give them an opportunity to concentrate on Rastrick?

Anyone know what was at play here? On the face of it, a massive rejection of the 2 big parties. WP and Green votes soaring out of nowhere. Seems out of step with the other wards?

Bar any by-elections this was the final election on the current set of boundaries. Only one ward has consistently voted for the same party during the last 20 years (it was two until Thursday). The party totals are not much different than 50 years ago when the Borough was created. Roll on 2026!

Helped of course by Labour winning the geographically largest wards. Ryburn was an impressive gain.
