Very much the latter. Main opposition party was refused the chance to register to contest it. Hun Sen already preparing for his son Hun Manet to take over whenever he feels like it.

This doesn't mean there won't be some recounts, just to be sure they really did.

Hun Sen, as he strongly hinted during this last election, has officially stepped down today after forty years in favour of his son Hun Manet. Whether this will be genuine, or a Turkmenistan style fake succession, remains to be seen.

Probably not in substance, but having someone looming over the country from the shadows would not be ideal. It destabilised Kazakhstan for a while. What I also want to know is what title he'll add to his repertoire. He was already the rather grandiose "Lord Prime Minister and Supreme Military Commander, Hun Sen", while his wife was officially known as "Celebrated Senior Scholar, Bun Rany". Should add, his son is "His Excellency Honourable Governor Doctor Hun Manet".
