I was surprised to see there was a ward (Broadheath) that was unopposed three years running (2014-16), although given the size of the Labour leads before and after, perhaps the mystery is solved. I suppose it's not too surprising that we see it from time to time even in thirds councils - we still get the occasional unopposed byelection (e.g. Rutland last year). When was the last time there was a truly zero-candidate principle authority election? There are usually a handful in Orkney, Shetland, Western Isles Zero-candidate examples? Really?

Ceredigion Uncontested Returns 2022 Lampeter (Lab), Llandyfriog (Plaid), Llandysilio (Ind), Llangeitho (Ind) and Tirmynach (Lib Dem) Those had candidates standing unopposed, which is a far more common phenomenon. In 2017 there were 92 such cases in Wales alone. We were talking about wards where there was no candidate at all. www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-politics-39751858

IIRC, 2005 in Ballinderry, Cookstown was the last uncontested election in Northern Ireland and that was for a six-seat election area. I'm surprised it doesn't happed a bit more often in small single member wards

Labour Town Council candidate - Wokingham - Norreys East ward (3 Lab, 1 Indie, 1 LD, 1 Tory, 4 seats). Agent for Borough candidate, Norreys ward, Wokingham Borough Council. Also doing a lot of campaigning to hold my own ward, Bulmershe and Whitegates, but I am not up this year.

The polls have been open for around 23 minutes, best of luck to everyone today (and try and get as much sleep as you can if you have an overnight count)

I am now a councillor, for twelve months at least. Trafford's own website states "The results of the election will appear once they have been announced" so you beat your new council in declaring this

Re-elected with an increased majority, Labour have gone from the 4th group on the council to the official opposition. I personally was hoping for more (& we narrowly missed out on more) but our best result since 1999.
