Is the LD figure for the 2021 result in Colchester correct? It looks credible compared with previous years.

I'd misread it as the second Tory, thanks for clarifying

It looks a tall order, but I assume the Lib Dems will be going all out to win the Colchester seat. I wonder if that explains the strange absence of a Green candidate this time.

Well, so far my parents have received two Lib Dem leaflets plus a knock and drop survey, compared to one Conservative survey and one Labour leaflet, so a Lib Dem victory on quantity of literature currently. The Labour leaflet was a bit odd - just a very unsubtle direct attack on one of the Tory councillors over his vote against the Local Plan, nothing about Labour or their candidate at all. If it wasn't for a small logo at the bottom and the imprint, you wouldn't know who it was from.

Saw some rumours on Twitter about unhappiness in the Tories about the selection vote. Shouldn't make a difference in that ward, but worth noting.

Sounds like an early title by Daphne du Maurier. Surely more of the sort of racy thriller sold on railway stations - "Vic the Vote is behind this one", thought the hard bitten Elections Officer, stubbing out his third cigarette on the ledge beside him, as he waited in the pale lamp-light for the first of the ballot boxes to arrive at the municipal swimming baths, to which the count has unexpectedly - and mysteriously - been switched.

That is a cracking start. Shall we work it up together and pitch it to Channel 4? I could do the story boards.

this is an occasion when I am delighted to have egg on my face. I thought logically that given the territory it would at least be close, but it really wasn't.

Only 2 wards but this weeks results are Labour doing a bit better than expected in a ‘red wall’ type ward and the Conservatives doing a bit better than expected in a Lib Dem facing southern ward.
