I mean, 1 vote, really? Nomination Paper requires proposer, seconder and three further assentors. Uniquely in UK Local Government (as far as I know) aldermanic candidates in the City of London need no residential, voter list, employment or property ownership qualification related to any part of the area covered by the Council to which they seek election.

To qualify for the office of Alderman a person must be of full age, a British subject, an able and sufficient citizen and freeman of the City, not already an Alderman, a Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland and at the time of nomination and election must either: - (a) be a justice of the peace; or (b) not be the subject of a debt relief restrictions order, an interim debt relief restrictions order, a bankruptcy restrictions order, a bankruptcy restrictions interim order or a debt relief restrictions undertaking, and not have been convicted in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, of any imprisonable offence (whether or not sentenced to a term of imprisonment in respect of the offence). There is no requirement for a person to reside within the Ward for which that person seeks election as an Alderman, and no requirement that a person is an owner or occupier of premises within the City.

Should the above posts be on Town & Parish elections page? No, whilst mostly independents the City of London is a principal authority.

Tories can’t catch a break at the moment can they?
Just seen a Labour leaflet from Gedling - big attack on Lib Dems. Might have been targeted of course but does that indicate who Labour see as the threat there?

I mean, 1 vote, really? The smart move by Mr Keeley would have been to not vote for himself and restore the fine old tradition (as per Stephen Pile's Book of Heroic Failures) of candidates with no votes. A principle would have been established: no-one likes me, I don't care. Maybe he did and some other bastard spoilt it for him.

Hat-tip to Sufia Khanam for keeping the flag flying in what will doubtless be a thankless task in Redbridge.

Keeley is a barrister and he gave a home address in the Temple. I think that there are probably more promising wards in the City for legal types than Cordwainer.
