On February 24th Russia launched a huge bombardment of Ukraine, taking over airfields around the main cities by destroying much of Ukraine's primary air defence and military infrastructure on the first day. Paratroopers are dropped around Kiev to hunt down and remove the government and main sources of media.
Putin has begun this with a not so veiled threat to any country that tries to interfere, with the implication of nuclear annihilation. The West looks on aghast, while within a week Russia has successfully removed the Ukrainian government, installing a puppet administration and regional governors.
Attempts at diplomatic efforts fall down when Russia uses its veto at the UN security council.
All local opposition is ruthlessly hunted down and removed. Zelensky and all associated with the government are removed to Russia, tortured and made to publically repent, before show trials are quickly established and they are never seen or heard of again.
All evidence of atrocities is quickly covered up. On May 1st the cowed population has to take part in May Day victory celebrations in every town.
