What would be different if the Brexit Party won the by-election? Would they have fought more seats in 2019? Might Boris have won a smaller majority?

They would have put more resources into Peterborough in the general, almost certainly still lost it, but had less money and manpower to fight other seats.

What would be different if the Brexit Party won the by-election? Would they have fought more seats in 2019? Might Boris have won a smaller majority? As we've seen in the past, by-election results can have a major impact on national VI polling. However, I don't believe it would've had a huge impact, as we started to return to normality once Boris Johnson was confirmed as Prime Minister. Brexit Party support did also melt away once the general election campaign was announced - partly due to having little meaningful policies outwith Brexit. One possibility is the Conservatives may have gone further to the right, to counter the 'threat' - which may have cost them more votes in their more liberal-leaning seats, however I doubt that would've had much impact on the final result. |

Can we create a single what if page? Don’t know if you’re into Marvel at all but that reminds me of a series they’ve had out exploring if certain events the MCU had gone differently. So we could dive into the multi-verse of politics in one thread |

UKIP winning Heywood & Middleton in 2014 would be another similar "what-if". Yes, and just having a close shave there was one factor behind a botched coup against Ed Miliband not long afterwards. Similarly, a BP win in Peterborough might have accelerated Corbyn's demise? Probably not, but its possible. |
