A completely hypothetical scenario:
A terror attacks hits Parliament during PMQs on a Wednesday lunchtime. A bomb big enough to destroy the chamber and a good chunk of the Palace of Westminster too. For Hollywood effect, Big Ben falls to the ground: it's that large of an explosion.
How many MPs are likely to be absent from the Commons, missing PMQs? Ten? More or less? I'm assuming a new PM and Cabinet would be appointed with haste by the Queen. How long would that take time-wise? New elections would be a necessity, I'd think. Six weeks to arrange or a couple of months?

Presumably a new Cabinet and PM would need to be assembled from the ranks of the upper house (assuming that largely escapes intact). Lord Frost may finally get his hands on that top job he craves.

Only around 440 MPs can fit in the chamber, many more will be in their nearby offices etc. Whilst there's no formal 'designated survivor' numerous Ministers will be on visits (both home and quite likely abroad) at any given moment.

Pretty rare for the full cabinet to be at PMQs I’d think? Room on the front bench probably isn’t there if anything

Six weeks to arrange or a couple of months? I think you’d be surprised at how many MPs miss PMQs. Obviously there are always some away on authorised engagements or select committee visits. But there’s also a proportion who seldom attend. With the way questions are allocated (both on the order paper and standing) it’s possible to be certain you won’t be called and if you find the show otherwise a nonsense you can remain in your office. Now most offices are in Portcullis House on the other side of the road a bomb would have to be huge to reach them.

It is an idea for a fictional story, an opener to set off a change. Thanks to the comments, I need a rethink now.
