Does Heseltine stay on until 1997? How well would Heseltine do against Blair? If the Tories do better in 1997, does Portillo succeed Heseltine?

For one thing he might well have called a GE in 1991 rather than waiting until the next year like Major - and he would likely have won by at least a similar margin and possibly somewhat bigger (a Tory victory would have been much more expected though, which reduces the chances of another really big win to follow 1983 and '87)
As for what happens after that, assuming he couldn't have avoided Black Wednesday in some form he would surely have lost popularity quickly rather like Major did IRL. And who might the Tories turn to then if things got really bad? One of the confirmed Eurosceptics, presumably.
