The swing away from the Tories in Boxmoor in 2019 was quite something, will be interesting to see what happens there. I don’t know the ward, so am eagerly awaiting Andrew’s previews.

Yes - I noticed that when preparing the thread. I think all the Conservative winning vote shares have been about 48 - 55% with very little movement regardless of circumstances.

There was a considerable degree of dissatisfaction locally regarding the Council's actions and policies regarding the Sports Centre (in the ward). The Lib Dems really worked hard in the ward and made sure everyone knew who the "guilty" councillors were. They particularly focussed their attention on Councillors Andrew Williams and Neil Harden. Neil Harden remained a candidate and lost while Andrew Williams (leader of the Council) switched wards to Adeyfield East and was elected there.
I suspect that, despite the national issues, the Lib Dems may find it more difficult to hold their seat in this by-election. However, I no longer live in the area and am not aware of how much effort each of the parties will be putting in.

A spin-off from UKIP founded by Anne Marie Waters after she lost the 2017 leadership election, on the grounds that the Party was too middle class and had abandoned its anti immigrant stance. They have very close overlap in membership terms with the BNP. AFAIK they have one councillor on Eppping Forest, having lost one on Hartlepool last year, and Richard Brougham, who successfully got himself expelled from UKIP and the City Independents during his four year term on Stoke City Council, in 2019.

Waters contested the Lewisham East and Batley and Spen by-elections (266 and 97 votes respectively) and Hugh Nicklin contested the Newport East by-election (159 votes).

Good piece in Private Eye (you'll have to buy the magazine to read it in full) on the Campden and Vale (Cotswold) by-election: the Tory candidate is the son of previous council leader Lynden Stowe, who was running the council when the Cotswold Water Park business was becoming murky. And Tom Stowe has threatened to sue LD candidate Danny Loveridge if he repeats any stories from the Eye in his local newsletter. Clearly no love lost, and the count could be an interesting occasion ...
