Despite Xiomara Castro being ahead of the incumbent with half the votes counted link
Some takes on the situation would make a Lib Dem blush

Another fucking Bolivarian communist?๐ No, but no surprise when right-wing Americans keep calling any Latin America politician left of centre-right Bolivarian.

There's a clear global trend in latin america right now. With of course cultural differences that mean different kinds of left wing candidates being elected, but still...
If Boric wins it in Chile and Lula makes is long awaited political comeback, the continent will appear quite leftie.

Another fucking Bolivarian communist?๐ I see we're using the American definition of communist "anyone I don't like" Or indeed anyone I think I might not like.

I mean one of Castro's main pledges is to invite the UN in to help combat corruption - hardly the actions of a despot ...

Another fucking Bolivarian communist?๐ No, but no surprise when right-wing Americans keep calling any Latin America politician left of centre-right Bolivarian. Cortizo in Panama is Centre-left and I donโt think that any sane person is going to call him a Bolivarian or a communist (I also donโt think that AMLO and Lula are Boliverian or Communist)

Another fucking Bolivarian communist?๐ I see we're using the American definition of communist "anyone I don't like" No, I'm using the definition based on her party, Libre's, ideology. And it's membership of the Sao Paolo Forum, which of course has the Communist Party of Cuba, the ruling party of Venezuela and the Sandinistas in it. It is most definitely in that milleu.
