Iraq holds its 5th Election since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein on Sunday under a new 329 single member constituency system. Actually the elections are being held under the single non transferable vote system in 83 multi member constituencies. |

Actually the elections are being held under the single non transferable vote system in 83 multi member constituencies. I was quite surprised to hear Iraq had a single national list. Probably one of the of the countries least suited to have one. Good to hear that’s not the case. |

Looks like the Pro-Iran parties got humiliated. 🙂 The overtly pro-Iran parties exist primarily to make the mainstream parties look reasonable. Iran neither needs or expects a puppet regime in Baghdad, it just wants a government that is broadly friendly to it, and that is what it has. |
