The behaviour of Clinton voters following the result is disgusting. Looting, violence and attacking police officers, If i was on the left I would be ashamed to call those my voters. Right wing voters get tough treatment, while lefties can throw their toys out the pram, smash up their town and head back to their safe space while facing little or no punishment. The only person from the left who has an understanding of why Clinton lost is MerseymikeThis is whats amusing about it. They're holding up traffic and pissing people off in LA and NYC, smashing up Portland and Oakland - all places that voted overwhelmingly against Trump. It's like if I was really pissed off with Labour winning an election and responding by going and trashing Harpenden

I wonder how many, desperate to jump on this latest Twitter bandwagon, will forget to remove them from their feet first?

Just in case anyone thinks that Trump could be elected President here is one chart that shows why he cannot. This one fact gave me a great deal of reassurance for a long time. I have been re-reading the first few pages of this thread just to bemuse myself.

It is a certainly an election that has thrown many normal assumptions out of the window and has to leave us wondering how on earth we can treat future opinion polling as even vaguely credible.

These are the same people who expected the Trumpistas to riot if Hillary won. I will hold my hands up and admit I assumed that would happen. And here they are now.

What kind of pillock signs a legal document "esquire"? From page 16 of this thread. I can't find a link to the document which is referred to.

Trump outflanked Clinton on many economic and trade issues. Sad really, his populist messages on jobs and trade played well in parts of the rust belt and I hope he is able to spell the end to the TPP and TTIP. While I am no fan of Trump, I understand why he was able to win and the reaction by some has been disappointing. I believe there is a lot for the left to learn from this. Playing the same old centerist broken tune is not going to work anymore. I'm not saying Sanders would have won, I don't know, he may not have done but he would have done a better job at appealing to white working class voters than Clinton did in places like Ohio. We cannot over intellectualise and we need to stop demonising those who have actual concerns. This whole burning of your fancy shoes is just pathetic. At the very least this company seems to actualy make things in America. Creating jobs for all citizens, no matter race, creed or religion.

Interesting: "Clinton actually overperformed FiveThirtyEight’s adjusted polling average in 11 states and the District of Columbia. The problem is that these states were California, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island and Washington. Since all of these states except for Nevada and perhaps New Mexico were already solidly blue, that only helped Clinton to run up the popular vote margin in states whose electoral votes she was already assured of. That’s especially true of Calfornia, where Clinton both beat her polls by more than 5 percentage points and substantially improved on Barack Obama’s performance from 2012." fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-fivethirtyeight-gave-trump-a-better-chance-than-almost-anyone-else/

I think we could see a few faithless electors this year but it would take 37 Trump electors to defect in order to prevent him winning. There is a silly little fantasy being indulged by some "Never Trump" Republicans where by 37 or more Trump electors vote for Paul Ryan thus forcing the House of Representatives to decide between Trump, Clinton and Ryan.

Traditionally reserved for minor gentry and graduates of Oxford University and the polytechnic Davıd Boothroyd went to, but I believe it has widened its use.

I thought esquire was used for any members of the gentry that did not have a knighthood. How do you address Cambridge graduates? And why this "discrimination" between Oxford and Cambridge? (and what polytechnic are you talking about?)

A lot of talk suggests that Sen Bob Corker (R-TN) will be Trump's pick for Secretary of State.
