A friend of mine from America, sent me this e-mail this morning in reaction to England getting through to the quarter finals.
Yes, my son (as I believe you Limeys say) this is the start of the Conservative landslide we patriots have been waiting for. Johnson wins the special election in Batley on Thursday, your socialist lot collapse in a heap and start infighting, England win the soccer championships. Johnson welcomes them as heroes, then announces an election where he sweeps the board clearing all those Red Wall seats as if they were nothing. That will inspire Trump and he will come out fighting. Yes, the future is conservative!
Johnson would never call an election just because England won the Euros would he?

Of course he would! I you believe the Twitterati Boris is at once the most bumbling incompetent ineffective fool to ever walk the earth, and the most effective evil conspiring mastermind since Machiavelli.
He’s almost certainly personally organised the England win to distract from the sausage war that he accidentally started because he forgot to read his own EU withdrawal agreement, which he got through Parliament by single handedly overturning the entire constitutional order of the United Kingdom.

To be fair to boris. There is a political strategy of stumbling from crisis to crisis not really fixing things, but just about surviving. He seems to have that off to a T. Each time he find another short term fix which unravels after a bit. Personally I would not want to work that way, but clearly some people like it.

It's a recipe for a government which survives a few years before one of its quick fixes unravels, or fails. The problem with a government based on boosterism and muddling through is that when the muddling through doesn't work, all the boosterism in the world won't save it.
