Keith Jenkins' Facebook group has disappeared, so that would be my guess You're right, he's now been removed from the list of councillors. This could actually be a very timely by-election for Labour in Sunderland. Both other seats voted Labour by quite a margin - 20 points in 2021 over the tories, and only losing it by 71 votes to UKIP in 2019 so you have to start Labour out as favourites to gain this seat back now. Considering that Sunderland was almost guaranteed to be on a knife-edge after the May elections, where Labour are almost certain to make some losses, but the big question was will the number of losses reach 5 and plunge the council into no overall control territory, if Labour do win this by-election it likely strengthens there position so that they will be able to hold on with a slim majority in May, which they may then be able to build on in 2023 when their "worst third" is up: 2018: Lab 17; Con 5; LD 3 2019: Lab 12; Con 5; LD 5; UKIP 3; Ind 1; Grn 1 2021: Lab 15; Con 8; LD 5

Sevenoaks, Brasted, Chevening & Sundridge. Anna Firth (Con) resigned. Obviously confident... Looking at the 2021 result there, I would think we on the other hand ought to be reasonably confident of that one. Incidetally Anna Firth always polled well above the generic Tory figure.

Sad to report Philip Normal has resigned his seat (Oval ward, Lambeth) following controversy over historic tweets.

The entirely correct decision, "sad" or not.
(obviously the six month rule will apply to this one)

Can someone please clarify for me the rules around a cllr not attending for 6 mnths for health reasons? In Waverley, we have such a cllr, and are told he has been given a "leave of absence". Do the regulations allow for that?

Do the regulations allow for that? Yes. If the council approves a 'leave of absence' before the six months is up, the councillor is not disqualified. In alert councils, the committee services team spots which councillors are coming up to the deadline and alerts them to apply.

How many weeks do we think the Tories can go without winning another council by-election? Bets on 😁 I was thinking that earlier. I reckon the Kent ones on the 27th are their best bets for a few weeks. Having said that, I don’t think the results this week or last week were meltdowns for them. They could get worse than those.
