We should go back to PJ O Rourke
"She's wrong about absolutely everything, but she's wrong within normal parameters."
The Democrats were working to entirely the wrong parameters

It’d need some research into a not too long ago case when IIRC the Obama Administration challenged McConnell’s tactic of adjourning the Senate rather than putting it into Recess simply to prevent him making Recess Appointments (I think they were to the National Labor Relations Board); I’m guessing that Obama’s legal advice was that he couldn’t overrule McConnell and invoke that part of the Constitution, but SCOTUS’ written judgment may shed some light on it. I'm sure there's a CPG Grey video about this process. I'll have a look when I get home. Here we are. It's specifically about the Supreme Court, but it affects *all* government jobs:

Married to Frank Wu BTW. Well, it means something to me. Oh, she is Trans BTW. Brianna Wu has been on an interesting journey over the last few years. 10 years ago she was in the vanguard of the woke and as a trans-woman was much respected in Social Justice circles; then about 4 years ago she started to realise that Wokery was going off the edge and was heading for trouble and since then has been shouting louder and louder about the train-wreck that the Culture War has become. In response she has since been excommunicated from many Social Justice communities, including the trans one - who regard her as a traitor because she has gone cold on trans-ing children. The latest reason to see her shot-down was her strong opposition to the flood of antisemitism since Oct 7th last year and support for Israel's right to defend itself. So she's now considered "far right" by all the usual suspects, despite still being a centre-left Kemala Harris campaigner. I think she speaks a lot of sense on many topics actually, and I would consider her a British-style liberal now. British -style liberal? No thanks! She is pretty typical - Triggernometry, The free Speech, etc - they are a few, Debbie Hayden in the UK who has similar views. I don't know about whether the Israel - Palestine issue on trans, though.

As Gaetz has now resigned, if he fails to get appointed AG, does that mean he's out on his arse altogether? He could always re-stand in the special election. It is a safe GOP seat. Such an action could cost him nomination in the primary that would occur before the actual special election, though. How many times has a congressional representative or senator "resigned to recontest" in recent US history?

Bobby the Lesser for HHS. People will die as a direct result, if confirmed.

Now indeed announced by Trump:
I really hope there isn’t another pandemic in the next couple of years. RFK Jr. would refuse to approve any new vaccine for whatever disease emerged.

This would be a huge disaster for the US scientific community, and would doubtless impact a large number of research collaborations in this country too:

This would be a huge disaster for the US scientific community, and would doubtless impact a large number of research collaborations in this country too: Possibly some overreach on his part as he would struggle to prevent private pharmaceutical companies and educational establishments from entering into partnerships, and their could also be a similar situation to the defence sector where Congress often appropriates for projects that Department hasn’t asked for but is forced to spend.

How much medical / drug research & development is private / state / directed by the state / funded by the state / licenced by the state authorities?

Trumps tweet is remarkable, because apart from where he says "Robert F. Kennedy Jr" it's the truest tweet he's ever made...

I think what he could do is a) stop Federal funding of projects and (possibly) b) refuse to licence new projects on Federally funded facilities.

How much medical / drug research & development is private / state / directed by the state / funded by the state / licenced by the state authorities? These are of course all very sensible questions, the answer to the second of which is probably “a lot”. My post was merely pointing out that if RFK Jr. does follow through with his intended plans (even if only for 4 years, and even if only as head of DHHS instead of POTUS), it would be really bad for the science sector, especially if he interpreted “research on drug discovery and infectious diseases” very broadly. Understanding almost any biological or chemical process can be linked to disease treatment in some way.

Bobby the Lesser for HHS. People will die as a direct result, if confirmed. The American public will be satisfied then. They came out and enthusiastically voted for death. As many have said. They don’t care whether it’s women in backroom abortions. In Gaza via missile. Or their own children in school shootings. As long as the bodies keep rolling in.

We have no really examined the catastrophic failure of the celebrity endorsement. The great Larry Holmes once opined "I used to be black but now I am rich" Oprah and Beyonce are no longer black. Come to that, they are not women either. Their maids are women. Just how much Oprah and Beyonce were paid to endorse Harris is the subject of debate. Oprah says she wasn't, but her company was. So that's clear By contrast, Bryson De Chambeau endorsing Trump managed amazingly to come across as courageous. Trump BTW is when adjusted for age probably the best golfer to occupy the White House. Meaningless to all rational people, but Biden and Clinton both lied enthusiastically about their ability. Yes, Oprah made some nice money off the Harris campaign. On a related note, one of the campaign senior bods said that the Joe Rogan proposal fell apart because they feared a backlash amongst the hard-line part of the base. It was set up, ready to go and crucially...free, other than flying to Texas. Instead she ended up being sent to do some women's sex and relationship podcast, and the campaign was stiffed for a six-figure sum to build a custom set. Ah yes the Fr Ted defence, it was only resting in my account etc. I think some of this Democrat attachment to Hollywood was shown in the West Wing show but to many I think it can piss people off. Oprah can influence people the wrong way witness "I wouldn't eat meat" during the video clip over BSE and the damage that did to US cattle industry for example.

Essentially everything at the drug discovery end is private. And even closer to everything at drug development. Universities tend to be focussed at the biological / mechanistic understanding end. But without the mechanistic understanding you cannot even begin developing the drugs… so it depends whether “basic” science that seeks mechanistic understanding that can be used for future drug development will be encompassed by RFK’s ban. I hope it isn’t, because it would be a massive setback for people relying on advancements in treatment for themselves, friends or family members with conditions like ALS, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, cancer, and so much more. My former boss in the States just lost his second child to ALS, both aged under 40. She was part of a clinical trial for new drugs that might help treat ALS in the future. I wonder whether RFK’s “research ban” will lead to the shutting down of all clinical trials that are currently underway.

This is taking "we're sick of experts" to its natural conclusion. Men under suspicion of unlawful acts as AG; man with no belief in vaccines as Health Sec. On the day that the WHO warned that measles is on the rise because of a collapse in vaccine take-up, it's grossly shameful that the US is now on the one way track to the Government actively supporting parents who want their children to suffer.
Maybe this is the brave new world the right wing want us to suffer within. An island with no trade because heaven forbid we get on with our neighbours. An island with no freedom of speech because of the weakness of white men. And now an island under the shadow of death because better a felon than a prosecutor as leader of the "free world".
