Q: What is this forum all about?
A: We are principally a forum for discussing all things to do with psephology - that is, everything to do with elections. Political debate is also more than welcome, but should be kept civil. Other recurrent topics of conversation include trains, beer and Fifteen to One episodes, to name a few...
Q: How do I get my political affiliation on display?
A: Send a private message to or tag the Administrator AdminSTB (by typing @ and then admin) or the Global Moderator finsobruce who will allocate you to your chosen party group. Some party groups have their own private sub forum.
New members are assigned to the Non-Aligned group by default. It is possible in some circumstances to be a member of multiple groups at the discretion of the Administrator, but you can only be displayed under one of them. To choose which group you wish to be displayed under, click on your username, Edit Profile, Settings and select the Display Group of your choosing.
Q: How do I leave a forum group?
A: Click onto your username, then click onto the Groups tab where you will have the option to leave a group. Only groups you have been assigned to will be available in the list. If you opt not to be a member of any group, or choose not to be displayed as a member of a group, you will be displayed as a Newbie until you reach 10 posts, whereupon you are displayed as a Forum Regular. Once you reach 5000 posts you become a Top Poster.
Q: When can I create a new thread?
A: For security reasons, you will only be able to create your own threads once you have posted a minimum of 10 times, the point you become a Forum Regular. This is because spammers have targeted the site in the past and tended to create threads rather than post in existing threads. You should be able to post on an existing thread right from the start.
Q: Can I change my username?
A: No, and for security reasons, multiple accounts under the same IP address are not normally approved at registration.
However, you can display your name differently. For example, if your username is redtory, you can display it as Red Tory (or anything) by clicking on your username, Edit Profile, the Personal tab and amend the Display Name field, before clicking on Save Personal Settings towards the bottom of the page.
Feel free to ask me more questions by private message, and I may place them on this thread for future reference.
