Given the election 70 replay I have often wondered if Wilson had tried to firm up Labour's lead might he have won in October 1970?
Given he and Heath In February 1974 were fooled by short term recoveries in the polls could he waited and dissolved in September 1970 with a 5 month poll lead rather than one month or so as it was at the time of dissolution in May 1970. Or would the Tories have gone on the attack if he hadn't gone in June and gone back into the lead?

I refer the honourable gentleman to the reply given a while back about Wilson winning and keeping Heath Out.... What if Gordon Banks had Played, I have a copy of the original story if anyone wants it....

So Bonetti still comes in for Banks and England still go out but it's not the Sunday before the election and the trade figures still come out the same week.

What if Gordon Banks had Played, I have a copy of the original story if anyone wants it.... A genuinely good slice of AH - thought provoking and eerily plausible.
