This election is taking place tomorrow in all 614 single member constituencies to the National Assembly of People's Power.
Only one candidate, approved by the National Candidature Commission, is allowed to stand in each constituency. They are only elected if they secure at least half of the vote - if they do not the seat remains vacant unless the Council of State chooses to hold a by-election.

I suppose you could call it a joke, but there was definitely a general election in Cuba yesterday. Elections such as this, also known as show elections, take place in China and North Korea.

Sham elections are not actual elections.

What sort of percentage do candidates typically get? 90%? 95%? 99%?

What sort of percentage do candidates typically get? 90%? 95%? 99%? Yes, pretty much. There's some information regarding turnout and the proportion of valid votes for the 2008 election available on Wikipedia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_parliamentary_election,_2008 If we don't give show elections a mention, no-one else will.

Show elections don't deserve a mention.
