Both the Highgate and Hampstead pubs bearing that name! I'm guessing you're talking about the former, which undoubtedly is a very good pub, although there is something about it that doesn't really do it for me (I can't really put my finger on it, however). Perhaps I find it at times a bit rigid, when from a pub I want something slightly more relaxed, "organic". The Hampstead one feels a lot more cozy while the Highgate one is a bit too grand for me.

Can recommend some great places to eat in this constituency: Master Wei just off Queen's Square in Holborn Coal Office in King's Cross The Bull and Last in Highgate For a drink, I've always thought the Southampton Arms (down the road from the latter) is much better. My favourite pub in London, I always visit when I'm down there.

The Princess Louise, The Angel (at Giles) and the Southampton Arms are excellent pubs I can't say I know the Southampton Arms, sounds like I should try it out. The Angel is quite old & has always been a good pub. The Princess Louise is a beautiful building but is unfortunately a Sam Smith's house, just the one ale & while cheap it's not very good.

Yes, with the PL I was referring to the beautiful building rather than anything else! Southampton Arms is fantastic, great atmosphere, booze and hot snacks. I'm assuming they take cards now! Sam Smiths pubs aren't what they used to be.

They *only* take cards now.
It went from cash-only to card-only very quickly. Excellent pub, regardless of how one elects to pay.

Sam Smiths pubs aren't what they used to be. Not since they now charge over £5 for a pint, although that does seem to be exclusive to their central London pubs. Their cheapness was their charm. Recently, I ventured to the Royal George in Deptford - a Sam Smiths pub - where you can still get a pint for under £3!
