I'd say over 20.5 is a fairly safe bet. The population is not as homogenous as it once was, there must be at least 21 people of South American origin living in the islands now.

There was an unofficial referendum in 1986 (conducted by Marplan posting surveys to every registered voter). Of 1,033 voters, 911 returned surveys, 869 voted for British sovereignty and 3 voted for Argentine sovereignty. 15 wanted independence, 3 wanted the Falklands to be a United Nations Trust Territory, and 11 suggested some other form. (11 spoiled ballots) www.sudd.ch/event.php?lang=en&id=fk011986

Could Argentina dare to invade?

Could Argentina dare to invade? The Argentine gamble in 1982 was that, once they had invaded, the UK would take a look at the dicey prospects of a mission to retake the islands by force and weigh it against the lack of economic significance of the islands, and conclude that military action wasn't worth it. The Argentines got that one hopelessly wrong; and not because it happened to be the Thatcher government in power (any other administration would have taken basically the same decision). That question having been decided and probably for all time, it would only be an Argentine government which actively sought a war which would now choose to invade. Incidentally there was a Falklands question in the Sunday Times Yougov poll today.

I wasn't aware that there had been more than the two basic options.

Neither an election, nor truly international (as the Falklands are a British Overseas Territory) but it certainly fits in here. The preamble and question are here. Interestingly prisoners are being allowed to vote. Tomorrow and Monday are the polling days for the referendum, and the result is expected on Monday evening. How many prisoners are there? I'd guess between 5 and 10.

According to this report at para 3.1 e, and assuming the prison was rebuilt according to the report, it contains five cells and can accommodate 11 prisoners. One cell is for female or juvenile prisoners.

If it's less than 98% I will be very surprised.

Gib has had a similar vote twice. In 1967 it was British sovereignty 12,138, Spanish sovereignty 44. In 2002 it was 186 approving of shared sovereignty, 17,900 not approving.

Falklands referendum count just about to get underway. Last of the fixed station ballot boxes now arrived in Stanley town hall. Count is according to usual British rules, first stage verification, then separated and counted. Live on Falklands Radio: tunein.com/station/?StationId=111551

Would have been a rather different result if the rest ( 40% or so ) of the adult population had been allowed to vote .
