I think I have been unduly harsh on myself. 0 points is the score that should attach to someone who comes lower than 10th place in a field of more than 10 or to somebody who didn't enter at all. On one or two occasions in the past I have left a whole month uncontested because I was going to be away for a substantial part of it but this was not the case here. I did enter the competition and posted entries for the first two weeks of the contest, after which I was in the lead. I then missed the third week due to circumstances outside my control but this does not invalidate my earlier entry - it simply means that I would get 100 faults for each of the contests for which I did not give a prediction. This does mean that I would have got an additional 2,700 faults for the remainder of July and this would put me in last place but in a field of 7, last place earns 4 points for the purposes of the form guide. I am therefore amending the above to include the 4 points that I believe I rightfully earned in the July contest. Absolutely fine, in my opinion, Pete ...
... though to be fair, as the footballers say, if you do this for yourself it should be done for others.
For example, I think Hedgehog partially competed in the first week of July and should therefore get 3 points.
I think this has happened in some of the other months too.

Certainly it should be done for others. I will have a look at Hedgehog and any others who partially contested months. Obviously I tend to score this from Middle Englanders summaries at the end of each month and where he did used to include partial entries he no longer does. I will check out all the entries for May and June as well but there doesn;t seem to be much point in going back further than that. In any case in the not too distant past we typically had over 10 entries so anyone who had missed a significant number of predictions would inevitably have been outside the top 10 anyway

IN fact Hedgehog gets the 4 points and I get 3 as he only missed the last week. Looking back at June, both Greenhert and Lennon had their points awarded despite missing the last week so this approach is consistent with custom and practice |
