The ward names in Dunstable are decidedly odd - 'West' is clearly the southernmost ward in the town. Having worked there I can confirm Unstable is an odd place.

It seems pretty absurd to be electing 4 or 5 councillors at the same time by FPTP. Is that a new thing or is it done elsewhere in the UK?

It seems pretty absurd to be electing 4 or 5 councillors at the same time by FPTP. Is that a new thing or is it done elsewhere in the UK? The really silly bit is how easy it would be to split Morriston ward. Draw a line along the M4. Give Morriston 3 councillors and Morriston North 2. It wouldn't be perfect (it's probably nearer a 63/37 split than a 60/40 one), but it would easily be within the 15% tolerance, and the growth forecasts (if they've been done by someone with a brain) would likely be kind.

I initially believed the BCW would break up all the 4 and 5 member wards, just as the BCE did with the remaining 4 and 5 member wards in England.

East Hertfordshire, Havant, and Mole Valley will have ward boundary reviews due to finish in 2022-consultation opened today.
In particular, East Hertfordshire will have significant ward boundary changes despite retaining the same number of councillors (50) as before, given developments in and near Bishop's Stortford in particular. On the Excel spreadsheet of electoral figures for that review Ware will lose one councillor and Bishop's Stortford will gain one. The rural wards will also have to be redrawn substantially.

Four new electoral orders have been published: The County Borough of Merthyr Tydfil (Electoral Arrangements) Order 2021 (S.I. 2021/1111). Reapportions councillors between the existing wards of Merthyr Tydfil and changes two ward names, with effect from the May 2022 election. Three of the present eleven wards lose a councillor, resulting in two wards which elect two councillors, six which elect three councillors and one (Town) which elects four councillors. The County of the Isle of Anglesey (Electoral Arrangements) Order 2021 (S.I. 2021/1112). Introduces new ward boundaries for Anglesey council, with effect from the May 2022 election. There are fourteen new wards, of which seven elect two councillors and seven elect three councillors. The County Borough of Wrexham (Electoral Arrangements) Order 2021 (S.I. 2021/1113). Introduces new ward boundaries for Wrexham council, with effect from the May 2022 election, and makes associated changes to electoral arrangements and (in two cases) boundaries for the communities of Abenbury, Broughton, Caia Park, Cefn, Gwersyllt, Offa and Rhosllanerchrugog. There are forty-nine new wards, of which forty-two are single-member and seven elect two councillors. The County Borough of Neath Port Talbot (Electoral Arrangements) Order 2021 (S.I. 2021/1114). Introduces new ward boundaries for Neath Port Talbot council, with effect from the May 2022 election, divides the community of Glyncorrwg into two new communities, and makes associated changes to boundaries and/or electoral arrangements for the communities of Blaenhonddan, Coedffranc, Dyffryn Clydach and Pontardawe. There are thirty-four new wards, of which fourteen are single-member, fourteen elect two councillors and six elect three councillors.

Liverpool City Council review announced by LGBCE - 85 Councillors instead of 90. Will all the new wards have to be single member or 2 member, like Birmingham? I have just checked the electoral figures and extensive development around Liverpool Docks mean that this will be one massive shake-up in terms of ward boundaries!

Sheffield has 84 councillors, not 85. According to the electoral figures from the LGBCE link pertaining to this review that equates to approximately 4,300 electors per councillor on average judging by Liverpool's forecast electorate. Using that average for Birmingham's 2018 review would have given Birmingham 160 councillors.
