Just for records and references sake; here are the 2004 Weston Town Council by-elections that I got from the gwydir demon website:
Both of these took place on the 16th of September 2004. Ashcombe Wood is now part of Hillside Ward and Central is the town centre but the upper part of the ward with low quality rented housing:
Weston-Super-Mare TC, Ashcombe Wood
Con 438 (54.6), Lib Dem 202 (25.2), Ind 102 (12.7), Lab 60 (7.5).
Majority 236. Turnout 25.7%. Con gain from Lib Dem.
Weston-Super-Mare TC, Central
Con 218 (32.7), Lab 163 (24.5), Lib Dem 126 (18.9), Ind 1 54 (8.1), Ind Senior Citizen 54 (8.1), Ind 2 51 (7.7).
Majority 55. Turnout 22.5%. Con gain from Lib Dem.
15th of July. Ellenbrough is now part of Central Ward - a more affulent part:
Weston-super-Mare TC, Ellenborough
Con 185 (46.7;+10.7), Lib Dem 20.7;-27.2), Lab 81 (20.5;-3.5), Ind 48 (12.1;+12.1)
Majority 103. Turnout 27.2%. Con gain Lib Dem.
