Skopje elected an Independent (VMRO-DPMNE appointed no candidate). What could have consequences for federal politics, because Zaev had promised to step down in that case. Zaev has stepped down. |

Next North Macedonia election due next month (8 May 2024).
On current polling, VMRO-DPMNE's dominance is set to extend further unless the SDSM alliance is revived.

With 43% counted, the VMRO-lawProfessora stands at the polled 36% - but the SDSM-inCumbent has completely flopped and is neck-to-neck with the DUI-Albanian at 18%!

70% done and the lead has increased to 39%.
Yet, the SDSM-inCumbent is now also safely in the runOff with 19% vs. 15% & 10% for 2 Albanians.
Hard to see, how VMRO could lo(o)se this: Even, if all Albanian parties backed the Socialist, the left nationalists of the exSDSM ZNAM-candidate (8%) would move to the other side. Additionally Levica (TheLeft, 4.5%) has not necessarily allWays sided with the Socialists.

88% counted and the rest is VMRO-leaning, so it could even get an overall majority of seats, but probably not (presently 59/120).
Coalitioning with the biggest Albanian party is still demanded, as far as i know.
Needless to say, that the presidential race was easily won by them, too.
