I tend to include them in the Independent column when I am doing spreadsheets, though the one I just encountered presented a conundrum as there was also an 'official' Independent candidate

Does anyone know if any “No Descriptions” were elected on 2 May? For amusement, it’s good to see a couple contesting the Peterborough by-election. cds.sevenoaks.gov.uk/mgElectionAreaResults.aspx?XXR=0&ID=140&RPID=16105418&J=12The winning candidate without a description previously stood as a Labour candidate. The defeated Independent was the incumbent, originally elected as UKIP. This ward has a very eccentric recent electoral history. The Lib Dems won with over 80% in 2007 - now down to 4% I see the winning candidate is described as No Party Description, which sounds a lot more positive than merely No Description.

Not all the Indys join the Indy Group, though, and at one point I'm sure we have three collections of (lowercase) independents.

A no description candidate won a seat on North Somerset Council in Clevedon and is part of the coalition group running the local council.

This thread has reminded me of a post in one of those local council complaints/compliments Facebook groups from a women who received her postal vote and thought that the lack of a description instead of saying 'Independent' for her preferred candidate (Littlemoor & Preston, Dorset) was the council rigging the election to stop him winning. She also wouldn't be convinced otherwise. Incidently he was probably better off not writing down a description, as the leaflets distributed in his name described him as an "Independant Candidate".
