With the SONP having their annual airing, it did make me think of the whole “no description” candidates as against Independents. How many “no description” councillors are there, if any? Surely this motley group have one of the worst success rates of any candidates.

I recall the very controversial former Conservative GLA member Brian Coleman stood as a “no description” candidate for Barnet Council in 2014 winning a derisory vote and when his affiliation was read out, both Conservatives and Labour activists erupted into laughter.

I suspect some No Descriptions are actually party candidates, quite possibly acting as their own agents, who managed to miss out filling in the party description on their nomination form. I've noticed 2 No Description candidates this year who are supposed to be standing for us, and wonder whether this has happened with them.

Wasnt that the place with a Labour councillor who said he was the offspring of an alien?

Yes, yes but will Zarka have the right to vote in local elections?

Yes, yes but will Zarka have the right to vote in local elections? I am happy to refer that question to Davıd Boothroyd.

I stood in a ward in the Salisbury CC elections under a No description moniker due to a nomination cock up. I was going to be a paper candidate anyhow.
Still managed 120 votes!

Does anyone know if any “No Descriptions” were elected on 2 May? For amusement, it’s good to see a couple contesting the Peterborough by-election.

The defeated Independent was the incumbent, originally elected as UKIP. This ward has a very eccentric recent electoral history. The Lib Dems won with over 80% in 2007 - now down to 4%

The Lib Dems won with over 80% in 2007 - now down to 4% 2 candidates with a blank description box were elected in Creech St Michael ward of Somerset West and Taunton Council. They are shown as Independents on the results. I suspect a lot of councils ( possibly wrongly??) freely interchange Independent and no description.
