Just testing the water here, rather than making a proposal...
There are now over 300 threads for various overseas elections that have taken place over the past seven years. It does look rather higgledy piggledy and unstructured.
I could just simply place threads for old elections in the existing archived boards under the appropriate year. Those who were here for the last US presidential election will remember the sub board for the 50 states, with prediction polls attached for the swing states.
I could even split this board and separate threads by continent, depending which countries they relate to - although I'm sure there's a feeling we have enough boards on this forum as it is. Thoughts?

Sub-boards for continents would definitely help.

I don't think there needs to be many sub-forums, but you might as well group them by continent as suggested.
One thing I would like to see is 3 american subs - Presidential, Congress, And State Elections.
Also, maybe merge the international politics section with the international elections? so when you go to America for example you have both political discussion and election threads in the same sub section so you don't have to navigate to another board like you do at the moment.

We had a vote on that proposal a couple of years ago and it was quite decisively rejected. Incidentally, a double poll question has been added to this thread.

I say collect them by country, but allow multiple threads for the large countries which have particularly active elections that lots of people watch (USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, not many more).

It would be a mistake to move "old" threads into the Archive section, because some are only old because they happened a few years ago. If there is a general election once every five years in, for example, Bhutan, then the same old thread can be revived whenever a new election happens. If it's a small obscure country with not much happening, then here is no harm in it lying dormant for four years.

I think sub-boards for continents or major countries would be good to have - perhaps something like US, Europe and Others could work.

Im happy with the status quo. The important threads are at the top of the board while we can simply search for a country's name if we need to talk about a country that hasn't been commented on in a while. Breaking them board into smaller boards would mean more faff in finding threads.
