It's today www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-47763176My best mate's Ukrainian wife is voting for the favourite. Like her he's a native Russian speaker but is pro-EU and against the linguistic nationalist bollox that's been used against Russian speakers since Putin launched his proxy war.

Given the other candidates, he certainly seems like the best bet!

Thank goodness Yulia Tymoshenko didn't come in second. Poroshenko is very corrupt but has been a good war leader and played a blinder. The comedian who plays the President on TV allegedly has links to Oligarchs but is effectively a blank slate. Yulia Tymoshenko on the other hand believes first and foremost in Yulia Tymoshenko. She's also corrupt shockingly🙄.

Indeed. There was one genuine reformist but he came nowhere. Who was that? Dymtro Hnap. He’s an investigative journalist who ran on an anti corruption platform. One of his sayings was “As long as they are in power, and we are out of power, nothing will change.” He eventually dropped out. The rest are either corrupt, have no real platform like the comedian, are radical populists, far right, pro Russian or are weird authoritarians. Anatoliy Hrytsenko of the self described social liberal Civil Position for example ran on a platform endorsing “enlightened authoritarianism”. In fact Hnap dropped out to support Hrytsenko.

The TV show 'Servant of the People' is on Netflix. It seems quite amusing.

Why was Poroshenko so unpopular to lose by somewhat of a landslide? Was the winner gifted? Quite every incumbent has been incredibly inpopular and thus not been reelected.

Why was Poroshenko so unpopular to lose by somewhat of a landslide? Was the winner gifted? Helps being the star of a popular tv show about a fictional president. You have people disillusioned with politicians and along comes your favourite fictional one. I'm sure there's a lot more to it, but it's nice having a populist who isn't a nob head.
