When is Maia Sandu next up for election btw, she must be pleased by this result? She was only elected in November 2020 and the President of Moldova serves fixed terms of 4 years. But still a reassuring approval of her presidency's actions, surely? |

She was only elected in November 2020 and the President of Moldova serves fixed terms of 4 years. But still a reassuring approval of her presidency's actions, surely? The people didn't punish her for creating during a pandemic for 7 months a permanent crisis instead of accepting a cohabitation. But that has probably still more to do with the proRussian camp being demoralized by Dodon's reign before and the proWesterners being highely enthusiased. Won't last forever, though. |

Only a little bit counted and thus hard to get a general picture, but Dodik's PSRM are surprisingly weak. Also PAS in Chisinau, where the inCumbent is - as expected - above 50%. In the rural south PAS seems to remain strong, though.

First round of the Presidential election is on 20 October. The incumbent, Maia Sandu, leads comfortably in the polls but well short of a majority.

There’s also a referendum today on whether to add EU membership aspirations to the nation’s constitution. Seemingly done to prevent a future government stopping the process as another referendum would be needed to remove that from the constitution.

Surprising numbers with 50% counted: In the referendum NO is ahead (~55%) and the inCumbent only at 35%. Of course, this could change a lot, but YES was mostly polled to be at 2/3 and she at 45% (or more). Presently the EC's site is shut down: pv.cec.md/cec-template-presidential-results.html |

The EC-site is up and with now 86% counted NO is still at 55%!
Mrs.Sandu increased a bit to 37%, but the Ind. nominated by Dodon's PSRM is at 29% and Usatii (PN) at 14%.
The latter was initially proPutin, but presently the Russian courts are persecuting him too, thus he is for "neutrality"...
