AYLESBURY VALE DC; Haddenham & Stone (Con died) Candidates: BALE, Mark Anthony (Conservative) BROWN, Jim (Liberal Democrat) LYONS, David Richard (Green) TUFFLEY, Jennifer Ann (Labour)
2015: Con 2677, 2075, 1681; Grn 1063, 673, 575; Ind 1037, 848; UKIP 1031, 931, 600; LD 771
The Conservative was the top placed indy in 2015. The Green was the top Green candidate.
This ward is mainly based on the old Haddenham ward, which elected 3 Conservatives in 2011 and 2007 (including 2 of the 3 elected in 2015), but in 2003 had elected 1 Lib Dem, 1 Con and 1 indy. The 2015 ward also took in part of the old Long Crendon ward, which was safely Conservative and third councillor elected here in 2015 was previously a councillor there.

There was quite a spread between the Tory candidates, wasn't there? And that top Green is well ahead of the other two.

Having only 1 LD and 2 Indys probably increased vote splitting. From the Greens also worth noting that the top candidate was also parliamentary candidate for Aylesbury in the concurrent GE. For the Tories, the 2 top candidates were incumbents for the old Haddenham ward. The third conservative was a sitting councillor for the old Long Crendon ward which was only partially in this ward.

The Green candidate is also a parish councillor in Haddenham, and I believe has a high profile locally.

Could be a very short tenure for the elected candidate...
The fact it's been called means either a) two local residents didn't like having less representation or b) someone other than the Tories think this is a runner...

They were due to have all out elections in May but they have formally been postponed until 2020; however in the meantime the council will be abolished on 1 April 2020 in favour of the Buckinghamshire unitary. So the winner on 7 March serves for just under 13 months.

So with 13 months to go presumably a by-election was unavoidable?

Though this ward is in the Buckingham constituency rather than Aylesbury so that should have been a hindrance rather than a help if anything (assuming they were doing any campaigning in the parliamentary seat)

The districts are apparently going for a Judicial Review but I would not hold out much hope of success.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about the abomination coming in. The districts are apparently going for a Judicial Review but I would not hold out much hope of success. The two unitary plan was far and away the most sensible, the whole county one is as big a joke as Wiltshire, in that different parts look in completely different directions and have nothing in common with each other.

Interested in the old Long Crendon ward, which in the 1950/1960s was represented by future LB Ealing (and before that Chelsea) Labour Cllr Patricia Seers and then for Labour by Harriet Mallalieu (wife of JPW Mallalieu MP). Does anyone know its boundaries - was it Brill that kept it Labour ?

Is the count tonight? Thanks. The count appears to be tonight; in the letter to Agents published on the council website the Returning Officer says “ The verification and count of votes will take place at Haddenham Village Hall, Banks Park, Churchway, Haddenham HP17 8EE commencing at approximately 10.15pm on Thursday 7 March 2019.”
