Odd that there's not been a thread on this so far. The poll was on 30 December and the official winner was surprisingly announced as Félix Tshisekedi, a moderate figure who had opposed the Kabila presidency but engaged with it. Almost everyone expected that Martin Fayulu, a more prominent opposition activist, was going to win. The continuity candidate came third. But it seems there has been some fiddling going on, as the real results have been leaked: www.ft.com/content/2b97f6e6-189d-11e9-b93e-f4351a53f1c3According to the leak, Martin Fayulu got 59.4% of the vote (not 34.8% as announced); Félix Tshisekedi was well behind on 19%, not the 39.4% he was credited with.

Who was the continuity candidate and why did they do so badly?
