You feel old when your university contemporaries retire from politics. The tipping point for me was when not only the son of Joe Handford (who I had served alongside on the council) turned up as a candidate, but his grandson stood as a candidate.

Just over a thousand postal votes cast from what I gather, and around 10% of voters turning up on the day - the local weather is wicked and the pavements are all treacherous with ice and snow (Surrey never grits the roads or pavements...)
A very low turnout of ~20% and a comfortable Tory win predicted.

Actually rather better than that if you factor in the weather, low turnout, vote share that was what, 40%+? postal votes where I imagine the Tories got the biggest share. I would not be at all surprised if that didn't mean a Lib Dem majority among those voting in person. Not to mention it was almost exactly my prediction on the competition

I reckon with half a chance at a proper campaign and a bit better weather the Lib Dems would have had that...

Billingsgate (City of London) Result: IND B. Masojada: 52 IND A. Heath-Richardson: 25 IND R. Kent: 15 IND A. Raja: 9 IND J. De Suasmarez: 8 SDP: 0 Someone on Twitter gave the result as Raja 7.4%, De Suasmarez 7.4%, which would mean 8 votes each and a total of 108.
