Christian Klapp seems to have defected very quickly. At the end of April 2014 he's retweeting the Labour leader of Southwark, and on 4 May he tweets that he is now a Conservative. His campaign manager in the Thamesfield election is also no longer in Labour, as has previously been remarked on on this forum.

I'm not defending his comments but it's amazing that the Conservative council leader thinks he should be thrown out of the council. Same sentiments as yours. Tasteless and inappropriate, of course, but a case to be thrown out of the council? No. Leave that job to his electorate in due course. And if they choose to re-elect him? That's democracy.

Poole- I note that they claim to have been "not that political". Repeatedly running for election having joined a political party is pretty political. IOW- that's fairly bizarre.

Yes, the latter defection seems to confirm what I've heard about the 'difficulties' the Island Tories are after having been kicked out of power. Internecine warfare I understand.

I should say I heard an explanation for the Sevenoaks Labour defections today, and I feel I know less after it than I did before.

"Hawick councillors resign from administration over tapestry funding" is pretty much the best Scottish Borders headline ever.

Christian Klapp strikes me as the sort of person who was attracted by Blairism but should never have joined the party in the first place - even looking at his old pre-Tory tweets, there is nothing there which suggests he had even remotely left wing views.
I won't criticise him because there were quite a few who did the same, and people are at liberty to change their minds or realise they are in the wrong party
