Kath Murphy, Conservative candidate for Cheshire East in 2008 & 2011 (and previously a Lib Dem Focus deliverer), has joined the Labour Party. Notable only as she only needs UKIP to complete a set. (cough) green (cough) Corrected. My apologies.

Come on. If we add the Greens we might as well add the PSP!

In 2011, Labour won 4 seats on Sevenoaks Council, all of them in Swanley.
The Sevenoaks website now shows two of them as Independent - Janet Sergeant (Swanley White Oak) and John Underwood (Swanley St. Mary's).
The Swanley town council website reflects the same.

I do find it hard to conceive how someone could make such a jump so quickly - that goes for the other way round too, but i know it happens. I suppose people can stay in a party for a long time not being very happy but not jumping until a few years have passed

At least they were honest though, and said it was to increase the chances of them getting elected. Better that than the hissy fit of leaving because you've been deselected and making a statement claiming 'Party X now supports all the values I stand for' or some other rubbish.

I should have made it clear I was discounting deselection, which does seem to be the main reason for defection!

Maria Hutchings, Conservative candidate in Eastleigh, to 'non aligned leaning UKIP', as explained by her in a series of tweets. To be filed under "rubbish celebrity candidates irritated that they are no longer treated as celebrities". All donations to the Kilroy-Silk Retirement Home, Andreasen Way, Dummy-Out-The-Pram, Leics.

Love it. She had to be the most embarrassingly inept candidate for many a by-election, and clearly didn't think she was going to be offered another winnable seat I am sure Nigel will oblige

This "celebrity candidate" garbage seems to be popular in Canada and Belgium but it's just abysmal. If she'd been interested in Conservative politics before her moment of minor notoriety, she could have pounded the pavements like the rest of us did. But then as I recall, she had also previously been a totally inactive Labour supporter as well. UKIP beware.

She was a "celebrity"?? I need to pay more attention to ... something ... obviously.

Also, the stance she took which originally got her noticed is not universally held by parents of children with learning disabilities - many passionately support inclusion into the mainstream or arrangements which don't require 'special' schools, which are often anything but.
