This development incidentally gives Labour a majority of councillors in Harrow East, they having previously been tied at 13 with the Conservatives and this 1 Independent.

Oh my word. I rarely agree with Tory Group leader Susan Hall, but she has it spot on with regard to this defection by Cllr Akhtar. For the record, he was a Lib Dem council election candidate in 1990. When New Labour was sweeping all before it (mid 1990s) he was in the Labour Party. By the time of the late 2000s, when times were tougher, he was in the Tory Party and won a by-election in Canons ward in December 2007. A political chamelion? Definitely.

unlucky, regardless of obviously he agrees with what a lot of what you think, you think you want this kind of person to be a lead candidate ? He is always likely to shoot his mouth off big style ...
On the other hand someone like Nattress you never hear from
I would hope after what he has always said about the EU he will donate excess wages and expenses ?

What lesson is there to learn? They've had a lunatic as MEP for nine years, during which time he's said all manner of inflammatory things, and they've faced no particular backlash for it. There may come a day when it will be a problem for UKIP that it is impossible to take some of its principal spokesmen seriously, but I don't think we've reached that day yet.

As West Midlands Regional Treasurer it would be most improper of me to comment on the strengths of weaknesses of potential MEP candidates such as Mr Gaunt or Mr Nattrass. I am sure that those who have paid close attention to my many comments about how UKIP needs to develop will be able to infer my views on this matter with a reasonable degree of accuracy.

indeed Richard and I would not press you on that as such. However got to be careful, if you want to be a serious party, I mean in other areas and not just a protest the standard of candidates has to be good.
Because over the next two years you will be under serious scrutiny

According to Michael Crick on Twitter, the UKIP press officer and county council candidate in Dover is Paul McMullan, the former News of The World journalist who went round every TV news studio that would have him to argue that phone hacking by journalists was perfectly OK because "privacy is for paedos, privacy is evil". I wonder if our Kent UKIP contingent have any comment.

I think freedom of the press has become a new issue for Farage...
I am surprised few of you realised why Murdoch had taken to lunching with him...

I am not but that appeal is going to be very narrow and fraught with danger. McMullan when he was on TV was shown to be a total idiot, anytime he went on the opposing view easily beat him.
Surely Pimp you can not be happy at Murdoch influence ?
