Two Conservative councillors on Watford Rural Parish Council have resigned from the Party. Diane Day (Oxhey Hall ward) and Bryan Jukes (Carpenders Park ward) are the personnel in question; Jukes cites same-sex marriage as the reason for his resignation. There is only one Conservative Party councillor (Eric Bishop) left there now. I know we don't usually comment about defections of parish councillors, but in this case it perhaps tells us something of the state of the Conservative Party in an average English constituency, with troops on the ground becoming increasingly unhappy. Then he shouldn't be marrying another bloke then!

Fenland Council continues to be an unfailingly hilarious excuse for a local authority.

I presume this was 'normal' porn ... so can happen sometimes and being disbarred from the Tories, weird punishment ...

It's Fenland. Nothing else is normal there, so why should their porn be?

UKIP won a ward in the constituency in the 2012 locals and didn't do too badly in some of the others, so it wouldn't have been a complete leap into the dark for her (always assuming that a sitting Tory MP didn't lead to them holding up better in local elections, of course.)

"Eastleigh’s Ukip branch has welcomed another high profile defector from a rival party. John Edwards – the Chairman of Hampshire English Democrats – has resigned his position and signed up to the Euro-sceptics. Waiting to greet him at Ukip’s Market Street HQ were two of Eastleigh’s former Lib Dem councillors, Glynn Davies-Dear and Andy Moore both of whom joined last month as part of a wave of new members the party picked up during the by-election campaign. Edwards, who runs a landscaping gardening business in Chandler’s Ford and is a keen local blogger, has had previous experience as a Labour councillor at Rushmore Borough Council." www.eastleighnews.co.uk/2013/03/local-english-democrat-chairman-defects-to-ukip/

High profile for Hampshire, maybe? Maybe. No. It's one area of the country the EDs have definitely gone backwards in too.

Yes, on the previous site I recall a UKIPper predicting great things from UKIP in Southampton, but they came to nought. Is he still around?
